The Free Travelling Theatre of the University of Nairobi was formed in 1976.
The basic interest of the group is to promote the use of performing arts as a means of educating and reaching out to the community, with the understanding that theatre performance is the form of art that closely imitates real life. By this fact, we understand why we are glued to audio-visual and visual media to watch actors. Performance of real life situations draws audiences as they get to exercise empathy.
Theatre festivals and the Free Traveling Theatre (FTT) exposes students to different theatrical spaces and to a variety of audiences. This enhances flexibility of the actors to demands and requirements of different theatrical spaces and audiences. At the end of it all, we will graduate students well versed in different theatrical forms and styles.
