STUDENT CONFERENCE: THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN PROMOTING PEACE AND HUMANITY

On March 14, the Literature Department at the University of Nairobi hosted a student conference titled: The Role of Youth in Promoting Peace and Humanity. The event gathered students, scholars, and peace advocates to delve into the significance of community-driven values in fostering harmony. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sungano Chigogora, a Senior Teaching Fellow in Epidemiology at Imperial College London's School of Public Health. Dr. Chigogora's work emphasizes the interconnectedness of all individuals and encourages the recognition of our shared humanity. In her engaging speech, Dr. Chigogora highlighted the role of young people in shaping peaceful societies and underscored the importance of Obuntu—the African philosophy of humanity and interconnectedness—as a guiding principle for conflict resolution. The conference featured thought-provoking discussions, interactive sessions, and student-led presentations that showcased innovative approaches to peacebuilding.
