The Chair of the Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi, Dr. Miriam Wangu Maranga Musonye, recently visited Soka University in Japan as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. This strategic visit marks a significant step in deepening academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and research partnership between the University of Nairobi and Soka University. During her visit, Dr. Musonye delivered a distinguished lecture under the Soka University Global Perspectives Special Lecture Series #15. The lecture, titled "Global Citizenship: Education and Culture in Kenya," was warmly received by faculty, students, and invited guests. In her presentation, Dr. Musonye provided rich insights into the intersection of education, culture, and identity in Kenya, while highlighting the critical role of literature in shaping civic consciousness and global citizenship. Her lecture underscored the value of intercultural dialogue, academic cooperation, and the shared responsibility of global institutions in promoting inclusive, transformative education. She also reflected on Kenya’s educational philosophy and cultural heritage as dynamic tools for fostering global understanding. This visit not only reaffirmed the commitment of the Department of Literature to international academic engagement, but also opened new avenues for collaborative teaching, student exchange, and joint research projects between the two institutions. The Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi looks forward to continued collaboration with Soka University and other global partners in advancing the frontiers of literary scholarship, education, and cultural diplomacy.
