On Tuesday, 27 January 2026, the Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi hosted a delegation from the French Embassy in Kenya, led by Mr Bernard Clouteau, Attaché for Linguistic Cooperation, and Ms Anne-Élisabeth Girault González, French Embassy Representative. The visit aimed to strengthen ongoing collaboration and assess requirements for the proposed modernization of the French Resource Centre.
The meeting convened students enrolled in French language courses, faculty from the Department’s French unit, the Chair of the Department of Literature, and representatives from Facility Management to discuss key considerations ahead of the planned renovation. Participants engaged in a comprehensive brainstorming session to identify priorities for the upgrade, including potential expansion of the current resource centre by annexing the adjacent room. The proposed expansion and refurbishment will be subject to final approval.
Additionally, discussions included the establishment of a French Resource Centre at the Kikuyu Campus to support the recently launched Bachelor of Education in French, which began in September 2025. This initiative is intended to provide additional learning resources and enhance French language education across multiple campuses.
Funding for the project is expected to be provided by the French government through the French Chamber of Commerce, underscoring France’s continued commitment to supporting French language education and cultural exchange at the University of Nairobi.
