The University of Nairobi's Innovation Week officially commenced today, coinciding with France's National Day, La Fête Nationale (Bastille Day). Vincent and Caroline attended the opening event, which showcased a wide range of innovative ideas and technologies from various University of Nairobi campuses, private companies, and secondary schools. The exhibition highlighted creativity, research, and collaboration aimed at addressing real-world challenges while inspiring the next generation of innovators.

On July 2, 2026 the Department of Literature hosted Professor Meghan Ference, Assistant Professor at Brooklyn College (CUNY), for a one-day workshop with postgraduate students on her ethnographic study of Nairobi's matatu sector.

On Tuesday 30^th June 2026, The Department of Literature was delighted to welcome back veteran filmmaker, educator, and social justice activist Ron Mulvihill, who paid a courtesy visit to the department and met with the Chairperson, Professor Miriam Musonye.

The Department is pleased to acknowledge the generous support of the Embassy of France through the donation of equipment for the establishment of a French Language Employability Corner in the French Resource Centre.

The items received include a carpet, two tablet stands, a sofa set, and a table. These resources will help create a comfortable and interactive space where students can access information, explore career opportunities, and develop skills that enhance the employability of French language learners.

On Friday, 12th June 2026, the Department of Literature hosted a courtesy visit from representatives of the French Embassy and AgroParisTech (France), including delegates from the School of Business and the Faculty of Agriculture. The visit followed a request for a consultative meeting on the modernization of the French Resource Center at the University of Nairobi, aimed at strengthening its role in supporting academic and cultural engagement.

On Thursday 11^th June 2026, members of the Department of Literature came together for a warm and enjoyable lunch meeting aimed at strengthening team spirit and fostering collegiality.

Sharon Anyango Ochola participated in the Student Exchange Program 2025/2026 between the University of Nairobi and Humboldt University at the Institute of Asian and African Studies in Berlin.

On 4 June 2026 the Department of Literature received generous donation of books from Antony Wesonga. This valuable contribution will enrich the department’s library resources, support academic research, and inspire students in their literary studies.

On Monday May 25 2026, the Department of Literature was honoured to host a delegation from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s (UNC) African Studies Center (ASC), alongside teachers from North Carolina schools, during their learning visit to Kenya held from 24th to 29th May 2026.

The courtesy visit provided a valuable opportunity for interaction and academic exchange between the visitors, lecturers, and students of the Department.

The University of Mayotte is making significant progress in its international outreach with the University of Kenya.

On the sidelines of the “@Africa Forward Summit,” the University of Mayotte and the University of Nairobi signed a first agreement with a university in Africa, in the presence of Éléonore Caroit, Delegate Minister responsible for Francophonie, International Partnerships, and French Citizens Abroad, along with many notable figures from Mayotte.
